FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is this Melanie’s Official website
Yes it is. It is administered jointly by Melanie’s children Leilah, Jeordie and Beau Jarred, with manager Dave Thompson.
2. How frequently will the website be updated?
As often as necessary. 2024 promises to be a very exciting year for fans and collectors, with a host of reissues and new archive projects on the way, as well as the concert debut of Melanie’s Children, the new act formed by Leilah, Jeordie and Beau Jarred to further their mom’s legacy, and continue sharing her music and message with the world.
3. How do I know I’m buying an official Melanie release?
At the time of writing, only three record companies are authorized to release Melanie’s music - Cleopatra Records, Easy Action Records and, for Buddah label releases (see discography), Sony and its licensees.
4. How much input did Melanie have in the reissues and archive releases?
100%! Beginning in the summer of 2023, with her entire post-1971 catalog collected together under one roof for the first time, Melanie began planning exactly how she wanted to see the music presented to the world.
It was Melanie who picked the bonus tracks that accompany many of the reissues; who decided which albums should be released with new artwork replacing jackets she disliked; and who suggested which albums should be reissued in their own right, and which could be combined into more representative packages (the restored 2LP version of Stoneground Words, for example; and the upcoming Florida Sessions and Victim of the Moon.
Since her passing, these instructions have been strictly adhered to. Going forward - that is, once the back catalog has been reissued in its entirety - any fresh releases of archive material will be developed with, and approved by, her family.
5. Are there any surprises in store?
Yes, but they won’t be surprises if we give them away now. So far, however, the recovery of the Crystal Palace 1972 live performance surprised even us; while the Neighbourhood Years 6 CD box set of rarities, containing over 100 tracks, should delight the most hardened collector.
Also in the pipeline are a full restoration of Melanie’s abandoned 1973 LP Autumn Lady, and a reconstruction of her early 1980s musical Ace o’ Diamonds.
6. How can I get involved?
We are forever on the look out for Melanie recordings that we do not already own. If you have anything you think might fall into this category, please contact us through this website; or, if you are a follower, via Melanie’s official Facebook page. Thank you.
